Frequently asked questions
The short, honest answers. Can't find yours? Join the waitlist and just ask us.
Are the insurance figures real quotes?
No. They're indicative estimates based on published young-driver premium data for a London black-box policy — a way to compare cars, not a price we can hold you to. When you're ready to buy, we introduce you to authorised insurers for a real quote.
Why is everything based on London?
Our premium estimates currently use a London base profile while we build out full district-level pricing across Great Britain. You can still enter a postcode — for now it just sets expectations, and local pricing lands district by district as that rolls out. Insurance is roughly car × area × age, so the ranking of cheap-to-run cars holds up well outside London even before then.
What does “Vouched” actually mean?
We vouch for the numbers. Every running-cost figure traces to a cited public source — government fuel data, DVSA MOT records, real market prices — so you can check our working. We don't sell the cars; we make sure you know what one really costs before you commit.
Can you check a car I found on Facebook or Gumtree?
That's exactly what Vouched is for. Look the model up in the First-Car Finder for its true monthly cost at your age, and check that exact car's MOT history free on gov.uk — our car pages link straight to it. A reg-plate check that does both in one go is coming; join the waitlist to try it first.
What does Vouched cost?
Nothing. The First-Car Finder, the guides and the risk map are free. When we introduce you to an insurance provider they may pay us a commission — it never changes the estimates or rankings we show you.
I'm selling — how do I start?
Head to “Sell your car”, give us your reg, name, phone and asking price, and we'll come back with next steps and an indicative price. No cost, no obligation.
Do you sell cars yourselves?
No — we're the check you run before you buy, wherever the car is listed. We occasionally feature cars we've checked ourselves; join the waitlist to hear when featured cars and new tools land.
